Sylvia is 53 years of age and has one daughter and a grandson. Unfortunately, addiction took control of her life, leading her to seek assistance at the City Rescue Mission on McDuff Ave. Thanks to her dedication and hard work, Sylvia progressed to the Life Builders Program at the City Rescue Mission — a faith-based residential transformation initiative. Sylvia had been clean and sober for 18 months and secured a job at Panera Bread. However, due to public transportation issues, it would take her up to two hours to reach work. She would wake up at 4:00 AM to arrive by 7:00 AM, and the bus stop was in a high-crime area, which made her concerned for her safety. After reviewing numerous essays, the board found Sylvia's to be the most impressive, and Destiny Changers awarded her a White Chevy Impala, thanks to our collaboration with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.

Darnell was referred to Destiny Changers Foundation after completing a first-time diversion program. Facing the challenge of re-entering the workforce with a record, he enrolled in the foundation's job skills workshops and received mentorship from volunteers. He completed his court-ordered community service hours on-site and used the experience to build references. Today, Darnell is employed full-time and mentors other young men in the program.

Keisha arrived at the foundation during a period of housing instability, navigating the shelter system with three children. Through Destiny Changers, she accessed the food pantry, received clothing for herself and her kids through the Destiny Closet, and participated in weekly support sessions. The foundation helped her connect with stable housing resources and a childcare subsidy program. Keisha now volunteers at the Destiny Food Pantry every Saturday.

At 15, Jaylen was court-ordered to complete community service hours following a first-time offense. Rather than a punitive experience, he found mentorship, structure, and genuine encouragement at Destiny Changers Foundation. Staff worked with him on communication skills, goal-setting, and responsibility. Jaylen completed his hours, returned as a regular volunteer, and is now on track to graduate high school with plans to study business.
